VSD Avenue is a joint venture of 3 multi national contractors, VolkerStevin (the UK based civil engineering company), Sita Remediation (the Dutch thermal treatment specialist) and DEC (the Belgian based environmental contractor).
VSD Avenue is remediating The Avenue, formerly the Avenue Coking Works. It is located at Wingerworth, near Chesterfield and was thought to be one of the most contaminated sites in Western Europe.
VSD Avenue was awarded the £92.3 million remediation and landscape contract in July 2009. It is currently anticipated VSD Avenue’s involvement in the project will be completed during 2015.
The client is the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), part of the UK Government. The clients project management team is headed by Turner & Townsend and Jacobs Engineering are the designers of the scheme.
This project involves transforming heavily polluted industrial land into a place that can be used and enjoyed by people and wildlife. When completed, the site will house residential and business accommodation, public open space, sporting facilities and ecological habitats.
